About Ferguson Media
Ferguson Media was launched in 2014 as a complete communications consultancy, supporting a wide range of public, private and third sector clients to tell their story more effectively across traditional and growing media channels.
Through the past decade, we have worked closely with local authorities and charities, engaging with Scottish and UK Governments to better understand and support leisure and cultural trusts, in particular, and helped secure a major government U-turn on business rates relief, to save leisure trusts £46m per year and protect several hundred community facilities.
Based in the Scottish Borders and working across the UK, David has gone on to support a wide range of clients from multi-million pound businesses seeking more effective communications strategies and plans - that communicate to the right people - to small businesses and organisations simply requiring a regular profile and media coverage.
A confident broadcaster, David can also be found on the BBC airwaves, producing output and hosting events.
About David Ferguson
I became Editor of Scottish Rugby Magazine, where a redesign of the magazine and fresh marketing and content focus helped triple sales before it was sold to Trinity Mirror Publishing. I then joined The Scotsman, as sports writer and then Chief Rugby Writer, covering Scotland and British and Irish Lions rugby tours across the southern hemisphere, as well as a range of sports and events from Commonwealth and Olympic Games, to Open Championships and motorsport.
Nominated for a number of journalism awards, I finished my time at The Scotsman with the first Scottish Press Award for Innovation after developing profitable online coverage of sport at scotsman.com.
I set up my own business Ferguson Media in 2014, producing video production at major events, but was drawn into communications and public affairs work, and would develop my consultancy supporting public and private clients across Scotland with a wide range of strategic communications.
As Chief Executive, I helped to develop Scotland's first research think tank on sport, the Observatory for Sport in Scotland (2018-2023), before returning in 2023 to my communications and media roots.
“David brought a lot of skills, expertise and contacts to improve communications and profile in the leisure and culture network across the UK.
His ability to understand the political landscape and the different needs of the public, private and third sector was crucial but the very supportive way in which he engaged with people at all levels - from leisure staff and management to politicians and government advisers - enabled us and our 120+ trusts to develop trusted relationships, be clearer in our messaging and secure support from the public and media.”
